Dear Vaping Industry,
Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.” - Thomas Jefferson
Jefferson’s words have never been more relevant than they are today for the vaping industry. The government is betraying our well being and rights in the interest of Big Pharma and Big Tobacco's profits. They have made us casualties of their war on smoking. 2015 was the beginning of the government’s big push for regulation of a life saving and a life changing industry. In 2016 that push will only intensify.
We have been outcast and condemned as addicts; called evil for our choice to free ourselves from tobacco and adopt a healthier alternative. Jefferson’s words should inspire us as an industry to fight together. From the manufacturers, the business owners, all the way to the consumers, it is our time to be heard by those who want to stifle our right to freedom of choice.
Before I started vaping three years ago, I would have never thought of being active in politics, advocacy, or an industry that is so community oriented. Not only am I glad that I quit smoking for my health, but I am proud to have inspired others to quit as well. I am honored to be part of a community that cares for the personal health of each other. Despite all the drama that this industry comes with, I love it. Truly and honestly.
We all have one thing in common: we beat Big Tobacco. Unfortunately, they want to force us back into their grasp. My question to all vapers is: are you going to let them win? Are you going to become a slave to them again? What is stopping you from calling your elected officials? Are you going to abandon your civic responsibility and throw away your rights? Will you be a collateral damage to their war?
Vaping is a phenomenon and it does change lives. It is a way of life, although our opponents do not believe so. Before we were slaves to tobacco, now we are slaves to the whims of regulators, taxes, and how we respond to critics as a community. All eyes are on us. We do have the power to change the outlook that society has on vaping as an industry and a community, but without a common voice we cannot, and will not, win the fight ahead of us.
Elected officials are scared and uncomfortable when it comes to the topic of vaping. We can help them with the feeling of uncertainty by unifying under one message, one common goal:
“Don’t make us a casualty to your war on smoking!”
Vote. Communicate with your elected officials, and peacefully protest against anything that infringes on our core beliefs and our freedom to choose a healthier alternative to traditional cigarettes. Tell them to “leave us alone” as that is all we really want.
Today I make this pledge to you, my friends, my family, my community:
  • I will not stop fighting.
  • I will not use anything less than my full capabilities to spread the image and word of vaping as a positive for society.
  • I will not be distracted in my mission. I will fight for the freedom to make my own choices.
  • I will do my civic duty.
  • I will vote.
  • I will talk to my representatives and I WILL make my voice heard.

  • I ask you to make this pledge with me. If you are passionate about the right to freedom of choice, join with me and make the effort to fight for our cause. I implore you to come together as a community and fight to make our voices heard. Together we can change the tide. Together we can mobilize. Remember, as Jefferson stated, “ is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.” We need to come together and show our opponents that we just want to be left alone.
If we remain divided there is no doubt we will fall, but standing together we are a force to be reckoned with. I hope that this letter inspires you to become part of the solution. This is one of the most passionate communities in the world. The only question left to ask yourself, is whether you will be part of the rise or part of the fall?
